The Atlantic Hurricane Season comes to a close on Monday. The average number of named storms is 9.6, with 5.3 of them becoming hurricanes. On average, there are 2.3 major hurricanes.

Persistent Ida Troubles

Well, Ida no longer exists officially, but her remains are causing real problems along the Mid-Atlantic Coast, especially along the North Carolina/Virginia coast with battering waves, strong winds and very heavy rain. The actual center is near or just off shore from the North Carolina Outer Banks.

Mid Morning in Alabama

Widespread rain continues at midmorning. A radar check at 8:40 a.m.
indicated extensive rain over North and Central Alabama, especially
from Montgomery northward. The heaviest rain seemed to be over West/
Central and NW Alabama, especially from about Livingston northward
through Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Fayette, Marion and Winston

* Birmingham reporting a steady, chilly rain, moderate to heavy at times. Brisk NE wind.
