9 October, 2009 (09:45) | On The Road, Travel | 9 comments

I am now back from the 34th Int’l Conf. on Radar Meteorology in Williamsburg, Virginia. Some neat stuff there. However, I have to brag on my school…of all the colleges and labs represented, including NCAR, NASA, Univ. of Oklahoma, etc., UAH had the most presentations of any institution there! Our atmospheric science [...]

Enjoying some great speakers at the annual Southeast Severe Storm Symposium this morning. The whole point of being here is learning from our colleagues in the science of meteorology, but we also come for the food. Some shots below from lunch yesterday at Perry Cafeteria on the MSU campus, and last night’s blow-out at Pap’s [...]

Day 2 in Norman was Monday, and I got to meet with a lot of fascinating people and see most of the National Weather Center. The highlights were the tour of Storm Prediction Center (SPC) by director Joe Schaeffer, and lunch at “The Flying Cow” restaurant with Chuck Doswell.

25 September, 2008 (09:21) | On The Road | 8 comments

This is my first ever blog post for the “On The Road Category” James is the king of that. But I just gotta post this story about Moundville, near where I grew up, in the north edge of Hale County:
NATIONAL STORY ABOUT MOUNDVILLE
There is a great story about Moundville in the current edition of Guideposts [...]

I sure wish I was quick enough to take a picture of those four wild turkeys I saw today, along with a flying squirrel. But, here are some scenes on the roads less traveled today in Pickens and Greene Counties; I wandered through outposts like Benevola, Union, and Mantua…. on the way to Aliceville.

Our Warrior River adventure is underway!
I am on Tim Coleman’s boat; we just came through the confluence of the Mulberry and Locust Forks. The most interesting part of the journey will be going through the Bankhead Lock.
I am amazed we have cell service out here; we will be passing Birmingport shortly…
