EASY FORECAST: Weather like this makes our job pretty simple. We continue to forecast sunny days and clear nights through Friday with a gradual warming trend. We reach the upper 70s tomorrow, and go into the low 80s Wednesday through Friday. We will be in the 40s early tomorrow, but it shouldn’t be as cold as this morning, when it was as cold as 34 at Black Creek in Etowah County.

WEEKEND PEEK: Dry air stays in place. The sky should be partly to mostly sunny Saturday and Sunday with a high around 80, and lows in the 50s. The dry weather should continue into early next week.

TROPICS: Ophelia is becoming sub-tropical over the North Atlantic, and Philippe will whip a “u” over the open Atlantic and will stay far east of the U.S. Nothing close to our shores now.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. NOTE: NO WeatherBrains tonight… we will record this week’s episode tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. CDT… it will be a NWA annual meeting preview.

Cold Morning; Long Dry Spell Rolls Along

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

COLD: How about these 5:00 a.m. temperatures…

Black Creek (northeast of Gadsden) 35 with scattered light frost

Fort Payne 37
Valley Head 37
Fayette 37
Concord/Hueytown 38
Haleyville 38
Cullman 39
Decatur 39

DELIGHTFUL WEATHER: October is known for long periods of beautiful weather, and we sure have one going now. We will stay dry all week with a slow warming trend; we reach the low 80s over the latter half of the week, but the humidity stays low, and nights will be pleasant with lows mostly in the 50s.

WEEKEND PEEK: No reason to see much change over the weekend as dry air stays in place. An upper high well to the north of here will keep the western U.S. trough in place, so expect mostly sunny days and fair nights Saturday and Sunday with a high around 80, and lows in the 50s.

LONG RANGE: Quite frankly the weather still looks benign into early next week; see the Weather Xtreme video for long range ideas.

TROPICS: Ophelia has weakened into a tropical storm near the coast of Newfoundland, and will move into the North Atlantic in coming days. Tropical Storm Philippe will recurve well east of the U.S. and Bermuda, and is no threat to land. The rest of the Atlantic basin remains very quiet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. NOTE: We will record this week’s episode tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. CDT for a special NWA annual meeting preview. No show tonight!

The Midnight Alabama Chill

| 1:30 am October 3, 2011 | Comments (0)

It was not too long ago that the stubborn ole thermometer would still be hanging out around the 80-degree mark at midnight. Quite a different story last night and again tonight. Early Sunday morning there was some scattered light frost at Black Creek, on Lookout Mountain, NE of Gadsden! Scroll down to see a nice early morning picture from there by Vic Bell, the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher.

Here is a sampling of midnight temperatures to start this early Monday morning. No doubt, by sunrise, we will see some more 30s! It is clear at this hour over the entire area with little or no wind.

41 Courtland, Meridianville, Fort Payne and Scottsboro
43 Haleyville
44 Decatur, Huntsville
47 Calera, Anniston, Troy

Nice sleeping weather. Why am I awake?
