Remembering April 27 DVD
I have been bombarded with requests from people wanting me to mail them a copy of the just released “Remembering April 27, 2011″ DVD.
Unfortunately I don’t have the time or resources to mail hundreds of these… and we have an exclusive distribution deal with the local Ford dealers, which has allowed us to give these DVDs away at no cost. I strongly wanted this DVD to be free of charge to the people of Alabama, and our friends at Ford stepped up to the place in a big way.
Best I can tell you is to find someone you know in one of the cities with a Ford dealer and have them mail it to you.
After all of the DVDs are distributed, I will post most of the video elements on the web so you can watch from anywhere.
Here is the list of participating dealers in Alabama…

Eckenrod Ford Lincoln Cullman
Ernest McCarty Ford Alabaster

Jim Skinner Ford Birmingham

Calm Weather For Alabama

RIGHT NOW: Scroll down and you will see the rather random pattern of clouds across Alabama today; at midday about half the state was in bright sunshine, while the other half was under a cloud cover. But as I write this the lingering clouds are fading fast, and most of Alabama will be clear tonight.
Temperatures are in the 70s where the sun is shining, but where clouds linger most places are in the 60s. There is no rain on radar anywhere close to Alabama.
Tomorrow looks dry with a partly sunny sky and a high not too far from 80 degrees. We might mention a slight risk of a shower during the afternoon, but the chance of any one spot getting wet is only about one in ten.
OUR WEEKEND: Models continue to look drier. Still, we do expect a few periods of light rain on Saturday, but the rain won’t be continuous, and I seriously doubt if we even have any thunder around here. In fact, we might see a few rays of sunshine when we don’t have rain drops. The high Saturday should be in the mid 70s, and we are looking at rain amounts generally 1/4 inch or less now. Quite the chance from earlier in the week when it looked like Saturday would be just about a wash-out.
Sunday now looks like a very nice spring day. A good supply of sunshine with a high in the 70s.
NEXT WEEK: The weather stays very quiet. Sunny mild afternoons, clear cool nights Monday through Wednesday. A weak front might kick off a shower late in the week, but for now the chance of rain looks small. Needless to say, we can now clearly say April of 2012 will be a very quiet month for severe weather, something we can be thankful for after last year.
APRIL 27 DVD: As we get closer to the anniversary of the April 27 th tornadoes, ABC 33/40 is proud to offer our viewers a DVD of that historic day. There’s more than three and a half hours of video about the day we will never forget. The devastation, the heroism and the human stories that brought our community together. The DVDs are available free of charge at the following Ford dealerships within the ABC 33/40 viewing area. Go by and pick one up…

I had a great time today visiting with the first graders at Alexandria Elementary School in Calhoun County, and with a big group of Alabama Power employees at their corporate HQ in downtown Birmingham. Be looking for those first graders on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News. Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…
Random Clouds
Not sure anybody could forecast this rather random cloud pattern across Alabama this afternoon. About half the state is enjoying a bright sunny sky, while the other half is cloud covered.
Clouds should erode over the next few hours. A full forecast discussion coming up by 3:30.
Weekend Looks Drier

DRY AIR TAKES OVER: Expect a pretty decent amount of sunshine across Alabama today as dry air moves in; the high will be in the upper 70s for most communities. Pretty much the same story tomorrow; partly sunny with only an outside risk of an afternoon shower. The high tomorrow will be at or just over 80 degrees.
WEEKEND LOOKS MUCH BETTER: Earlier in the week, all global models painted a very wet picture for Alabama with a surface low tracking across the southern counties of the state. But, over the last 24 hours, models have shifted the system well to the south, over the Gulf of Mexico, and that manes a drier situation for our state.
Understand there will be a chance of rain on Saturday, but now it looks like the rain will be light and rather spotty; nothing like the soaking advertised a few days ago. We will make the adjustments to the forecast accordingly, and mention just a few periods of light rain late tomorrow night, Saturday, and Saturday night. We might even see a decent period or two of sunshine Saturday.
The sky becomes mostly sunny Sunday as drier air works into the state and the Gulf low moves well to the northeast. Highs over the weekend will be in the 70s.
NEXT WEEK: The first half of the week looks great with sunny mild days and clear cool nights. See the Weather Xtreme video for details and graphics.
