Warm, Mostly Dry Weather Continues

THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures are generally in the 78-84 degree range across Alabama this afternoon with a good supply of sunshine. Clouds are a tad thicker over the far northern part of the state, and radar shows a few showers over Tennessee. Those showers might clip areas near the Tennessee border this evening, but just about all of our state will remain dry.

TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: The weather won’t change much. Bottom line is that we will stay warm, and generally dry, with daily highs in the low to mid 80s with a partly sunny sky. With low level moisture on the increase, we will probably have some late night and early morning stratus clouds, but those should burn off by mid-morning when they develop. It is very possible a shower or two might show up on radar on one or two afternoons, but they should be very widely spaced, and mainly over the northern quarter of Alabama. An upper ridge across the Deep South will keep the benign weather in place.

NEXT WEEK: Quite frankly, not much change. There will be enough moisture for a few isolated showers early in the week, but the upper ridge will keep most places dry. The high will be in the mid 80s Monday, backing down a few degrees by Tuesday and Wednesday. No sign of any really big or organized rain event here for the next seven days as the storm track across North America will remain north of here.

Warm, Mostly Dry Days Ahead

| 5:53 am April 25, 2012

THE WARM-UP CONTINUES: Temperatures are generally in the 50s across Alabama this morning, although some of the colder pockets over Northeast Alabama have dipped into the 40s. The warming trend continues today with a high around 80 degrees in most spots this afternoon with a partly to mostly sunny sky.

TOMORROW/FRIDAY: Most of the state will be warm and dry. Low 80s tomorrow, mid 80s Friday. We might see a shower or two near the Tennessee border over far North Alabama, but even there nothing really widespread is expected. The sky will be partly sunny, although some early morning clouds are possible as low level moisture levels rise.

OUR WEEKEND: The 00Z GFS has backed off on the idea of a cold front moving through Sunday; instead it keeps a 500 mb ridge in place. And, if this is correct, the weekend will stay warm and mostly dry with highs in the 80s. Partly sunny days, fair nights, and again some chance of early morning cloudiness. We will lean this way in our forecast. Showers, more than likely, will be very hard to find.

NEXT WEEK: The ridge holds, meaning warm, tranquil weather. I guess a shower might pop up at some point during the afternoon hours along the way, but we see nothing to suggest any really organized rain next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for details and all of the graphics that go along with this discussion.
