A special thanks to Bill Castle for his work in putting all of this together…..
Storms Over The Tennessee Valley
**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today due to travel**
QUICK NOTES: I will be in the field this afternoon as we look back on 4.27.11….
*Isolated storm are forming over the Tennessee Valley at mid-afternoon… see the radar below…
Showers and storms should be confined to the far northern part of Alabama this evening, and they will fade away as the sun goes down. A strong storm is possible, but severe weather is not expected.
OUR WEEKEND: An upper ridge will grow stronger, meaning a sunny, warm weekend for Alabama. Look for a high in the mid 80s tomorrow, followed by upper 80s Sunday.
NEXT WEEK: The weather still looks warm and mostly dry with the upper ridge overhead, and the primary storm track well to the north. We might see a shower or two along the way, but they should be few and far between. Highs will remain generally in the 80s.
See the morning Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas and graphics.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
CONNECT: You can find me on all of the major social networks…
Don’t forget to watch our one hour special… “Remembering April 27″ at 6:00 p.m. on ABC 33/40. My next Weather Xtreme video will be posted bright and early Monday morning by 7:00… Brian Peters will have the video updates tomorrow and Sunday. Enjoy the weekend!
I will be moving on
I wanted to write a quick note to all of you who read this blog to express my deep appreciation for your reading my blogs and for your supportive comments and emails over the past 5 years. This is my 871st blog, and it will be my last here at alabamawx.com.
I have enjoyed this blog immensely. Getting to connect with people and explain complex weather events in a simple, easily understandable way, gives me a lot of satisfaction. I want to express my appreciation to James, who allowed me to be on this blog, and to Bill Murray of The Weather Company.
I will still be working for UAH, and I will continue in my consulting company (ckpweather.com). You can always keep up with me on twitter at timbhm, and I hope you do! Email me anytime at timbhm@msn.com. I’d love to hear from many of you!
Thank you,
Tim C.
April 27, 2012 – A Calm, Warm Day
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
NEVER FORGET: One year ago at this moment I was on the air with Jason Simpson as the morning event cranked up across Alabama; this was the “forgotten” part of April 27, 2011. Five people were killed, and about a quarter of a million lost power. And, of course, the worst was yet to come.
If you want to spend some time reviewing the 24 hours of April 27, see all of our blog posts here. The last post of the day is at the top of the page… just scroll down for a live, running look at what happened on that horrible day. Quite a job by Bill Murray and the blog staff; they were documenting history.
SPECIAL TONIGHT: Don’t forget our special tonight from 6:00 until 7:00 on ABC 33/40… after the show is over I will post all of the video elements here so you can watch them again. And, I should note we will be streaming the special via our regular uStream channel.
TODAY AND THE WEEKEND: Warm and mostly dry weather will continue for Alabama. A few showers or storms could fire up this afternoon over the northeast corner of the state near a stalled front over Tennessee, but even there they should be widely spaced. Morning clouds will give way to a partly sunny afternoon along with a high in the low to mid 80s today.
Expect a good supply of sunshine tomorrow and Sunday; look for mid 80s tomorrow, and upper 80s Sunday. We do note the GFS prints a high of 91 for Birmingham on Sunday… we won’t go that far, but it could very well be the warmest day so far this year for much of Alabama. An upper ridge should keep us dry over the weekend.
NEXT WEEK: The ridge holds, meaning no big change. Partly sunny, warm days, and fair nights. Highs remain in the 80s.
The GFS does hint at some risk of showers around Saturday May 5, but nothing really heavy or organized, followed by cooler air on Sunday May 6 with highs dropping back in the 70s along with lower humidity levels. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas and all of the graphics that go along with this discussion.

Due to travel and special programming, I won’t be able to post an afternoon Weather Xtreme video, but I will update the blog with some forecast notes this afternoon…. enjoy the day!
