Severe Thunderstorm Warning : New Cullman Co Warning 3:45
The NWS has issued a severe thudnerstorm warning for southern Cullman County.
It extends from Cordova and Sipsey back to Curry in Walker County. It is past Manchester.
The storm will pass near The Colony and Garden City. It will pass near or just south of Dodge City.
It will stay south of the city of Cullman.
It eventually will affect Hayden in Blount County.
The storm does appear to have weakened a bit on the past couple of radar scans.
The same storm also has a severe thunderstorm warning for Walker County as well.
Strong Wind Damage Potential Around Smith Lake
Strong potential of damaging winds around Smith Lake right now.
The main line of storms overtook and actually merged with a discrete storm cell. The radar is showing decent rotation. There is good inflow. There is a chance there could be a small vortex there that could produce a spin up tornado as well.
This activity will move toward Arkadelphia, Bremen and The Colony.
Hail is also a possibility. Dime sized hail was reported in Curry a short time ago.
Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for Walker and southern Cullman counties.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning : Cullman County 3:15
The NWS Huntsville has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southwestern Cullman County. It is for the storm coming out of Walker County.
Be alert for damaging wind and large hail with this storm.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning : Walker County until 3:30
Dangerous storms are approaching Jasper in Walker County.
They are pushing east at 20 mph.
They will impact places like Jasper, Cordova, Curry, Manchester, Sipsey and Smith Lake.
Expect large hail and damaging winds with these storms.
Storms over Walker, Tusacaloosa, Fayette Counties, Approaching Jefferson
Our line of intense storms continues pushing east southeastward this afternoon across West Alabama.
It extends from eastern Winston through western Walker, eastern Fayette, northwestern Tuscaloosa and Pickens Counties.
The heaviest part of the line is in Walker County just southwest of Jasper. This lines up nicely with a CAPE max in that area (>2,500 j/kg). There is a pretty good chance that there is hail falling just northeast of Jasper.
Instability values are running 1,500-2,000 j/kg generally.
It is now about 35 miles west northwest of downtown Birmingham and 20 miles west northwest of Tuscaloosa. At 25-30 mph, it will arrive in western parts of the Birmingham Metro and Tuscaloosa in less than an hour. It should reach downtown Birmingham between 3:30 and 4. Eastern sections of Birmingham will experience it between 3:45-4:15.
The outflow will precede the main line by 10-15 minutes.
Expect winds of 30-40 mph with gusts to 50 mph as the line passes. There is lots of lightning and torrential rain.
