One More Nice Day
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
THIS AFTERNOON: What a delightful day across Alabama. A bright sunny sky, low humidity, and comfortable temperatures, mostly in the mid 70s.
Look for another cool night tonight… by daybreak tomorrow we expect low in the 50-54 degree range, but the colder spots will reach the 40s again.
Tomorrow will be dry with a good supply of sunshine and a high in the low 80s. Some high cirrus clouds could reach West Alabama tomorrow afternoon, blowing away from storms that will be in progress to the west.
WEEKEND FORECAST: The disturbance responsible for severe storms over South Texas this afternoon will weaken and approach slowly from the west. This, along with a marked increase in precipitable water, will bring the chance of showers and storms back to Alabama over the weekend. Both the 12Z NAM and GFS have come in wetter for Saturday, and we will need to mention scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms both days, with very little sun. While we don’t expect any significant severe weather risk, the rain will be pretty significant and beneficial. The guys at HPC (the Hyrdometeorological Prediction Center) have upped their rain forecast for Alabama, suggesting the state will see 2 to 4 inches of rain Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of next week. Afternoon temperatures, most likely, won’t get out of the 70s due to the clouds and rain.
NEXT WEEK: The weakness aloft remains over Alabama for the first half of next week while slowly dissipating. This means a continued risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday through Wednesday, with coverage slowly decreasing each day. See the Weather Xtreme video for details and all of the graphics that go along with this discussion.

Another Late Season Alabama Chill
It sure has been nice to have several mornings in recent weeks where a cool front brought us some very nice cool mornings. However, we must not get spoiled, because the first month of summer is not far down the road. We consider June, July and August our summer months and you can bet your boots there will be many, many days with high temperatures in the 90s, a distinct amount of haze in the air, and some uncomfortable nights. So, let’s enjoy this current cool spell. We don’t know if it will be the last one. Here is a comprehensive list of low temperatures this morning:
41 at Black Creek
43 Hazel Green
44 New Market, Sardis Springs, Valley Head, Hamilton, Gaylesville
45 Crossville, Russellville Airport, Ft. Payne Airport, Addison, Heflin, Newell
46 Hanceville, Scottsboro
47 Crossville, Moulton, Centerville, Talladega
48 Sylacauga, Anniston
49 Coker, Huntsville Airport
50 Bessemer, Concord/Hueytown, Decatur, Cullman Ag Station, Alexander City, Vern0n, Oak Grove

Spectacular Spring Weather
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
COOL START: We begin this Thursday with a cool, crisp, sparkling morning across Alabama. Our Skywatcher at Black Creek, northeast of Gadsden, reports 42 degrees. Both Fort Payne and Valley Head are at 45 degrees at 5:00.
The day ahead will be delightful, with sunshine in full supply and low humidity. Expect very similar weather tomorrow with a cool morning and pleasant afternoon along with a bright, sunny sky.
MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND: A disturbance, now just west of El Paso, will approach very slowly, and with moisture levels on the rise we will need to bring in a chance of showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. They will be scattered on Saturday, but the coverage should increase Sunday as dynamic support increases. In fact, the 00Z GFS looks pretty wet on Sunday with potential for one inch of rain. The high Saturday will be in the upper 70s, followed by mid 70s Sunday with clouds and showers.
NEXT WEEK: A surface low associated with the upper trough will move very slowly from the Louisiana coast to Central Alabama Monday through Thursday, and this keeps much of our state in a wet, unsettled pattern, with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms through at least Thursday. Actually this is a good thing; we need good rain in May to get lake and river levels higher for the summer, and good soil moisture which can tend to mitigate summer heat (solar energy is needed to evaporate that soil moisture, which tends to keep the heat from getting out of hand). Highs will be below average next week, mostly in the 70s, with the clouds and periods of rain. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details and long range ideas.
