New Tornado Watch Until 1 AM CDT for Much of West and Central AL

A tornado watch has just been issued until 1 AM CDT for much of west and central Alabama. Main threats in this watch area will be from isolated hail (up to ping pong ball size), damaging wind gusts up to 70 MPH, and a few tornadoes possible. If you are in this watch area, please be ready to seek shelter if a polygon warning is issued for your community. Please get the word out to any friends and relatives who live in this watch area, just in case they have not heard about the watch.

Birmingham NWS Counties include: Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Coosa, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marengo, Marion, Perry, Pickens, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston and all counties in North Alabama except Dekalb.

A Tornado Warning has just been issued for Choctaw County until 6:30 PM CDT. This storm is moving east at 30 to 35 MPH, and will be near Silas at 6:10 PM, and Gilberton and Toxey around 6:15 PM.

Storms over MIssissippi will be crossing the line into Alabama between now and 6 p.m. They will affect Sumter and Pickens Counties first. The storm near Dekalb MS produced golf ball sized hail in Neshoba County earlier.

The storm in north Noxubee County MS will affect Lamar County, Alabama. The storm northeast of Ackerman will pass west of Starkville and West Point. It could affect Marion County between 7-730 p.m.

The most intense storms right now are in the Jackson MS area. They will be into Alabama between 730 and 8 p.m.
