Showers Remain Possible Through Tomorrow

| April 14, 2016 @ 3:11 pm

RADAR CHECK: The radar is actually pretty quiet this afternoon; we note a cluster of heavy showers over Pickens County in West Alabama (even seeing some lighting in that cluster now), otherwise the sky is generally cloudy. We note some breaks in the overcast over Northeast and Southwest Alabama…

On the maps, a broad upper low is over Arkansas, and as that feature approaches we will need to maintain the risk of showers tonight and tomorrow. Nothing too heavy, nothing really widespread. Just be ready for a few passing showers over the next 24 hours. Rain amounts should be under 1/2 inch for most places.

Models are not as aggressive with the CAD (cold air damming) pattern, so most places will rise back into the 60s tomorrow afternoon.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: While some lingering clouds are possible early Saturday, the sky should become mostly sunny during the day, and we will remove the risk of any lingering showers based on the weaker CAD and model trends. We reach the low 70s Saturday afternoon, and Sunday promises to be a delightful day, with ample sunshine and a high in the mid 70s.

ALABAMA SPRING FOOTBALL: Expect a good supply of sunshine for Saturday’s “A-Day” game in Tuscaloosa with temperatures generally in the low 70s.

NEXT WEEK: We will see a nice summer preview Monday through Wednesday with highs up in the low 80s along with mostly sunny days and fair nights. Showers will return Thursday and Friday, but for now it doesn’t look like a severe weather situation. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

HONDA INDY GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA: The big event is coming up at the Barber Motorsports Park April 22-24… too early for a specific forecast, but at this point the weather looks warm and rather showery. Get ticket information here.

AT THE BEACH: Showers and storms remain possible tomorrow from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores, but dry air returns over the weekend with sunny days and fair nights Saturday and Sunday. The dry weather holds into early next week… highs mostly in the 70s. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
