RADAR CHECK: As advertised, a band of showers and storms is approaching North Alabama this afternoon ahead of an “Alberta Clipper” type system…

Showers will move southward in coming hours; a bit of thunder is possible, but overall rain will be light with amounts generally under 1/4 inch. The rain should reach the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa/Anniston/Gadsden areas in the 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. time frame.

TOMORROW/FRIDAY: Dry, cool, continental air will cover Alabama, meaning sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Early morning lows will be in the 45-50 degree range; well below average but no record… the record low for both mornings is 38 (for Birmingham). The high tomorrow will be in the 68-71 degree range, followed by mid 70s Friday afternoon.

THE WEEKEND: More delightful weather with a warming trend. Sunny Saturday and Sunday… low 80s are likely Saturday afternoon, followed by mid 80s Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: Monday will stay warm and dry, but we will need to bring back the chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday. With weakening dynamics, for now it doesn’t look like a big severe weather threat, and rain amounts should be in the 1/2 to 1 inch range for most. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Sunny days and clear nights on the coast from Gulf Shores over to Panama City Beach through Monday. Highs in the 70s on the immediate coast; but 80s are likely inland over the weekend. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
