Dry Weather Through The Weekend

| May 5, 2016 @ 6:09 am

DRY, COOL AIRMASS: We are starting off this day with temperatures in the 40s and 50s across Alabama; we project a high in the 67-70 degree range today with a good supply of sunshine. A very deep upper low is near Asheville, NC; that feature is bringing a showers to North Georgia and East Tennessee… even some snow to higher elevations of the Great Smoky Mountains. It is conceivable that a shower could clip the far northeast corner of our state later today, but almost all of Alabama will be dry.

It will be rather windy today with northwest breeze averaging 10-20 mph with higher gusts.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Tomorrow morning will be pretty chilly for May… we project a low in the 45-48 degree range for most places. No record, however; Birmingham’s record low for May 6 is 38 set in 1968.

Dry air means sunshine in full supply all three days; the high tomorrow will be in the mid 70s, followed by low 80s Saturday, and mid 80s Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: The weather stays warm and dry Monday with a high in the 80s, but we will need to bring in the chance of showers and storms by Tuesday afternoon as moisture increases. The latter half of the week looks warm and somewhat unsettled with a risk of showers and storms on a daily basis. But, the threat of severe weather looks low for now. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Sunny days, clear nights on the Gulf Coast from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores through Monday. Highs in the 70s on the immediate coast; 80s return to inland areas over the weekend. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
