Almost every community in North/Central Alabama is experiencing mostly clear skies and cool temperatures, with the exception of the extreme northeastern corner of the state where there is a little more cloud coverage.

A surface low is currently located near where the state lines of West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania meet. A cold front is extending back to the south and southwest from the low through Virginia and the Carolinas, through central Georgia, down through the southeast corner of Alabama, and then hugs the Gulf Coast all the way back into Texas.

The only rain showing up on radar close to Alabama are showers and storms associated with that surface low and cold front in the Virginias, North Carolina, and some very light showers in Eastern Tennessee.

QUICK LOOK AT TEMPERATURES: Cooler temperatures from where they were at this time yesterday are being reported from around the state. With a cool and dry airmass in place, it will remain cool for today. Here is a list of temperature readings from across the state at this time:

Birmingham 60
Tuscaloosa 63
Muscle Shoals 63
Huntsville 62
Anniston 60
Alexander City 59
Montgomery 66
Dothan 68
Mobile 69

REST OF TODAY: For most of the area, skies should remain mostly sunny. There is a very small risk that a shower may clip the northeastern corner of the state as moisture rotates around the surface low located up to the northeast. Everyone else will remain dry. Afternoon highs will struggle to reach 70 today. It will be a little breezy, with winds out of the northwest averaging 10-20 MPH, with higher gusts. Overnight lows will fall down to the mid to upper 40s.

FRIDAY: After a chilly start to the day, a full supply of sunshine and dry air is in store for the area. Afternoon highs will be back in the mid 70s.
