A Few Storms Tomorrow Night

| May 11, 2016 @ 3:29 pm

WARM MAY DAY: Temperatures are generally in the mid 80s across the great state of Alabama this afternoon, and as expected, there is very little on radar. We note one tiny shower over Chilton County as I write this at 3:15 p.m.

TOMORROW: Not much change; warm, humid weather continues with a high in the mid 80s. A few showers or storms could form by afternoon, but they will be widely spaced. But, tomorrow night, an organized band of showers and storms should move into North Alabama ahead of a surface front. SPC has the standard “slight risk” of severe weather defined for the northwest corner of the state, with a “marginal risk” for the rest of North Alabama, north of I-20…

The main window for stronger storms over North Alabama will come from 6:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight, and the main threat will come from hail and gusty straight line winds. Storms will weaken as they move south, and many locations south of I-20 won’t even see enough rain to measure late tomorrow night.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Dry air takes over. These three days will be rain-free, with sunny days and clear nights. The high Friday will be close to 80 degrees, followed by upper 70s Saturday and Sunday. Morning lows will be in the 50s, and some of the traditionally colder spots could reach the 40s early Sunday morning.

NEXT WEEK: Global models continue to suggest the most organized rain events will remain north and west of our state; we could see a few showers or storms along the way, but at the moment it looks like a decent part of the week will be warm and dry. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: The weather still looks mostly dry through early next week on the Central Gulf Coast from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores, although a few scattered showers and storms are possible Friday. Highs will be near 80 on the immediate coast, with mid 80s inland. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be held this year at the Greystone Golf and Country Club May 18-22… Expect highs in the 80s; maybe a few scattered showers on tournament days, but for now it looks like nothing too heavy or widespread. Get more information about the tournament here.
