Only Isolated Showers Through Wednesday
THIS AFTERNOON: The sky is generally cloudy across Alabama this afternoon, but the low levels are still rather dry, and nothing is showing up on radar as of 2:45 p.m.
Temperatures are generally in the mid to upper 70s, still below average for mid-May in Alabama (Birmingham’s average high May 16 is 81).
TOMORROW/WEDNESDAY: Afternoon temperatures will be warmer both days with highs up in the low 80s, maybe mid 80s in spots. Expect a mix of sun and clouds, and any showers or storms should be very widely spaced. The chance of any one spot getting wet tomorrow and Wednesday is in the 10-20 percent range.
THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Not much change Thursday; maybe a little increase in the coverage of showers with the approach of a front, but the highest rain coverage this week will come Friday and Friday night as a wave of low pressure tracks along the front draped over Alabama. No severe weather is expected, and rain amounts should be around one inch for most places.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The wave moves east of Alabama, so the best chance of rain will shift eastward as well, but clouds will most likely stick around Saturday, and few lingering showers are possible (but nothing heavy or widespread). Then, Sunday promises to be a beautiful day with ample sunshine along with a high in the low 80s.

AT THE BEACH: We are forecasting about 4 to 6 hours of sunshine daily on the Gulf Coast through Saturday (from Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach) with the daily risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Then, Sunday looks totally dry with sunshine in full supply. Highs will be close to 80 degrees on the immediate coast, with low to mid 80s inland. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be held this year at the Greystone Golf and Country Club Wednesday through the weekend… A shower is possible Wednesday and Thursday, but most of those two days should be dry. The best chance of showers and storms will come on Friday, but I still expect them to get some golf in. Then, the weather trends drier for the weekend; only a few lingering showers Saturday, followed by a sunny sky Sunday. Highs will generally be in the low 80s, although upper 70s are expected Friday due to clouds and showers. Get more information about the tournament here.
SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: Coming up at the Hoover Met May 24-29… too early for a forecast, but in late May in Alabama average highs are in the 80s, and many days are pretty humid like summer. Get information about the big event here.
