No Rain Through The Weekend

| June 7, 2016 @ 6:05 am

LONG DRY SPELL: A dry airmass covers Alabama this morning; we expect a good supply of sunshine today with a high not far from 90 degrees this afternoon. Then, tonight, a cooler airmass drops down from the north, and tomorrow morning will be pretty pleasant with a low in the upper 50s in many places.

Tomorrow should be the nicest day of the week, with ample sunshine, low humidity, and a high in the mid 80s. Thursday and Friday will stay dry and sunny with a warming trend; we reach the upper 80s Thursday, and low 90s Friday.

HOT WEEKEND AHEAD: Get ready for the hottest weather so far this year for Alabama Saturday and Sunday; afternoon highs will reach the mid 90s, with upper 90s possible in a few spots, thanks to an upper ridge building overhead. Birmingham’s hottest temperature (based on data at the airport, where records are kept) so far this year is 93, recorded on May 31 and June 3… we should beat that by two or three degrees over the weekend. The warm air aloft associated with the ridge should keep us rain-free. Very unusual to go 6 consecutive days with no afternoon showers, but it sure looks like it will happen.

NEXT WEEK: The upper ridge begins to weaken slightly, and with rising moisture levels, we will bring back the chance of “widely scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms” for the first half of the week, but nothing to suggest anything widespread. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Colin is northeast of Savannah, Georgia early this morning, moving rapidly northeast. It becomes “sub-tropical” tomorrow in the open Atlantic.

The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny days, fair nights on the coast from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores through the weekend; showers will be almost impossible to find. Highs in the 80s on the immediate coast; 90s return to inland communities by Friday and the weekend. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
