Today’s Weather is Brought to You by the Letter H…

| October 23, 2016 @ 1:05 pm

H as in the big blue letter on the weather maps that signifies surface high pressure.

One of those big H’s is stamped over Northeast Alabama this afternoon, and its influence is being felt from Houston to High Point.

A few thin high clouds are moving across Mississippi in a fairly fast high level flow over a flat ridge of high pressure that extends from Arizona to Alabama. Those clouds will try to give a little character to an otherwise robin’s egg blue sky. But they won’t dim a bright fall sun.

Temperatures are in the 70s all across the state, heading for highs in the middle and upper 70s.

Tonight won’t be as cool as last night, with lows in the middle and upper 40s.

But all in all, the fine weather calls for a Perfect Weather Warning for Central Alabama for this afternoon and a Perfect Weather Watch for the remainder of the week. Highs all week will be near 80 degrees and lows will gradually warm through the 50s. The humidity is gone for the week with dew points remaining below 50F through Wednesday. Even after that, they will only rise into the lower and middle 50s.

The week should be dry, with the exception of a very small chance of a passing shower on Thursday.

I know you’re tired of hearing it, but the consecutive rainless days streak at Birmingham is now at 34 days. After today, with will slide into a tie for 4th at 35 days. By the end of Tuesday we will be solely in 3rd at 37 days. If it doesn’t rain until November 3rd as the GFS predicts, it will be 45 days, and should end as the second longest streak in Birmingham history.

All of the top five streaks straddled part of October.
