A Miserable Day Across Central and North Alabama

| December 18, 2016 @ 12:42 pm

It is a miserable day across most of Central Alabama behind a strong cold front. Temperatures are in the 30s in and north of the I-59 Corridor, and in the 40s further south. Temperatures will continue to slowly fall through the afternoon and will be near freezing shortly after sunset across areas from Lamar, Fayette, Walker and Blount Counties back to the northwest.

Precipitation is falling in a swath that is about 90 miles wide roughly either side of the I-59 Corridor.

We can’t rule out a few pockets of a light wintry mix might occufrom southern Lamar through Fayette, Walker, Jefferson and into Cullman Counties through the afternoon hours. Accumulations would be light and there shouldn’t be any problems. But we will be watching, and so should you if you have any holiday activities or errands planned.

To the north, across Marion, Winston and Cullman Counties and north into the Tennessee Valley, the wintry mix has been more widespread, mainly accumulating on cars and decks.

The precipitation should push south of the I-59 Corridor by 6 p.m.

Overnight lows will range from 24F around Hamilton to near 30F around Clanton.

Monday promises to be a cold day with highs only in the middle 40s despite a good supply of sunshine. 50s will return for Tuesday and Wednesday, and both days will start off in the 30s. Showers will return Wednesday night into Thursday, but rainfall amounts won’t be heavy.
