Clouds Are Moving In At Midday Ahead Of A Possible Snowmaker

How’s The Weather Outside At This Hour
At the midday hour across Central Alabama, clouds are already starting to build in from the northwest from the approach of our next system, that could bring us some wintry mischief in several different forms for tomorrow through the early morning hours on Saturday. Much of the area at this moment have partly to mostly sunny skies, but the extreme western and northwestern locations are already experiencing those clouds. Radar is dry at this point, and should stay that way throughout the rest of the afternoon and early evening hours.

Winter Storm Watch
Much of Central Alabama has been placed under a Winter Storm Watch starting on Friday morning at 6AM, and going through Saturday morning at 9AM. As far as specifics, we will have an update to the forecast for the event coming up by 1:30 PM or sooner, including the possibility of more counties being added to the watch, or even other advisories being issued. Temperatures Across Central Alabama
Temperatures at 12:25 PM are ranging from the upper 30s in the northwestern parts of Central Alabama, to the low 60s in the extreme southeastern parts of the area. The warm spot is currently Eufaula at 62 degrees. The cool spot is currently Haleyville at 39 degrees.

Birmingham’s Climatology And Records
The normal high for January 5th is 53, while the normal low is 32. The record high for today was set back in 1955 at 74 degrees. The record low was set back in 1924 at 9 degrees.

Weather For The Remainder Of The Day
Clouds will be on the increase throughout the remainder of the day from the northwest to the southeast. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 40s to the low 60s across Central Alabama from northwest to southeast. For this evening and into the overnight hours, a small chance of rain transitioning over to snow flurries or light snow showers for much of the northern half of the area, with a small chance of rain for much of the southern half, especially west of a line from Clanton to Montgomery to Troy. Overnight lows will be in the upper 20s to the mid 40s across the area from northwest to southeast.

On This Day In Weather History: 1990
Thunderstorms produced heavy rain in the Central Gulf Coast Region. New Orleans, LA, was drenched with 4.05 inches of rain in 24 hours. An overnight storm blanketed the mountains of northern Utah with up to eleven inches of snow.

National High & Low Temperature
The warmest high temperature for the United States on Wednesday was 86 degrees, recorded at Marathon Florida. The coldest low temperature for the United States on Wednesday night into early this morning was -36 degrees, recorded at West Yellowstone Montana.
