A Cloudy But Very Mild Midday Across The Area

At the midday hour, it is a relatively cloudy Wednesday across Central Alabama. There are a few breaks in the clouds allowing the day to brighten just for a minute or two. In the southwestern parts of the state, the cloud cover is less. The cloud cover is moving to the northeast, so hopefully we can get some of that clearing up this way so we can have a spectacular sunset this evening.

There are a few showers out there at the midday hour across Central Alabama. The heaviest shower is showing up down in Hale County in-between Moundville and Greensboro. A few lighter showers are located in northern Talladega and southern Calhoun counties, mainly affecting Alexandria, Saks, and Weaver. All of these showers are pushing off to the northeast.

Skies will remain mainly cloudy with a small risk of scattered showers across the area throughout the day, with that risk moving to only the northern half of the area by the evening. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 60s to lower 70s across Central Alabama, with lows in the 50s.

Temperatures Across Central Alabama
At 12:21 PM, temperatures are ranging from the lower 60s in the northern parts of the area, to the mid 70s in the southern parts of the area. The warm spot is currently Eufaula at 74 degrees. The cool spot is Cullman at 60 degrees.

Birmingham’s Climatology And Records
The normal high for January 11th is 52, while the normal low is 32. The record high for today was set back in 1949 at 78 degrees. The record low was set back in 1982 at -1 degrees.

Clouds And Warm Temperatures For Thursday
On Thursday, clouds will hang tough throughout the area, as skies will be mostly cloudy. A very small risk for a passing shower or two are possible west of a line from Snead in Blount County, to Birmingham, to Centreville in Bibb County, to Thomaston in Marengo County. A few sprinkles are possible during the early morning hours for the northern half of the area. Afternoon highs will be around 20 degrees above normal, reaching the 70s across the area.

For Those Who Are Beach Bound
A small risk for showers for today, with mostly clear skies through the rest of the week and weekend. A small chance of thunderstorms return for Martin Luther King Day. Highs will be at or just over 70 for the remainder of the week through Monday. Click here to see the Beach Forecast Center page.

The warmest high temperature for the United States on Tuesday was 90 degrees, recorded at Rio Grande Village in Texas. The coldest low temperature for the United States on Tuesday night into early this morning was -29 degrees, recorded at Havre in Montana.
