Nearly a Record Low Barometer Reading at Birmingham

| January 22, 2017 @ 2:51 pm

Michael Clemmer sent a picture of his barometer, which is as low as you will ever see in Alabama without a landfalling hurricane. The needle is in the “Stormy” category. You think?!?!

The barometer bottomed out at 29.25 at 1:10 p.m. at Birmingham. 29.14 inches at Alex City is the lowest I have seen so far overall.

The all time record for Birmingham is 29.16 on January 11, 1918.

During Hurricane Ivan, the barometer bottomed out at 29.22 inches at Birmingham.

A category one hurricane is usually around 29.00 inches.
