Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow! The Montana Edition

| January 31, 2017 @ 4:38 pm

A major winter storm is affecting the western United States this week, including the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and the northern Rockies, extending into the Plains States. Areas from eastern Washington and Oregon through parts of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming into extreme southwestern South Dakota are under winter storm watches and warnings and winter weather advisories.

Coastal California and western Oregon will receive more beneficial rains, while the crests along the Sierra Nevada Range could see 3-5 feet of snow this week!

See the 15+ inch amounts just east of where Nancy is along the south facing slopes of the Absaroka Mountains showing up as an orange bullseye.

Nancy Galloway from my hotel team is in Pell City is in Cooke City, Montana where it has been snowing to beat the band. Cooke City is on US-212 in the Beartooth Mountains of southern Montana, very near the Wyoming state line. It is the Northeast Gateway to Yellowstone National Park. The permanent population is 140 people.

She sent a video of the conditions there this morning, where heavy snow was falling. A winter storm is in effect through 6 p.m. Wednesday. A total of 1-2 feet of snow is expected to fall through that time. There will be a short break Wednesday, but periods of snow are expected to continue into the weekend.

Thanks Nancy!
