Storms, Some Hail Over Northwest Alabama

| February 7, 2017 @ 1:01 pm

Heavy thunderstorms are over parts of Marion, Winston, Fayette and Lamar Counties at this hour. A good bit of lightning and very heavy rain is occurring.

There are indications of decent size hail as well. Hail was reported a short time ago in Columbus MS from a storm that is moving into Lamar County. This storm will pass just south of Sulligent and head toward Winfield.

Other storms are heavy in the Fayette/Berry areas of Fayette County.

These storms extend back to the Jackson MS area, where severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect. Ping pong ball size hail is possible with those storms just east of Jackson.

The activity is not severe other than isolated hail that could reach near severe limits.

The severe weather threat will now be confined to areas south of a line from Near Selma to Dadeville this afternoon.

Moderate rain continues in the Birmingham area. 0.47 inches at the BHM Airport. 0.58 at my location in Vestavia near Acton Road.
