9:00 PM Look At Central Alabama’s Weather Situation, And It Is Still Pretty Quiet

| February 14, 2017 @ 9:01 pm

At the 9PM hour, a few showers are located over the northwestern parts of Central Alabama. That is pretty much all for the activity in our neck of the woods.

Looking down to the south, a few showers are over the southwestern part of the state. Most of the stronger storms are located just off of the Mississippi and Louisiana gulf coast out into the Gulf of Mexico.

Back to the west, a line of showers have finally made it across the Mississippi River. We do note that a few lightning strikes have been detected in the northwestern corner of Mississippi. AT this point, there are no severe watches or warnings posted for anyone in the southeast.

The severe weather threat will remain over the Gulf Coast region for the remainder of tonight and during the predawn hours on Wednesday. Even though helicity numbers this far north would be supportive to severe weather, the system will be moving through too quickly for any surface based instability to form, and there will be a warm nose aloft keeping any storms from growing tall. Therefore, the threat for any severe weather for Central Alabama will be near zero.

The rain should be out of here by 9:00 AM tomorrow morning, and Wednesday will feature decreasing clouds and breezy conditions. Afternoon highs will be in the low to mid 50s for the north and central parts of the area, with mid 50s to the mid 60s to the south. Winds will be averaging 10-20 MPH out of the northwest, and will make those high temperatures feel much cooler. Rain totals for the event should be around 1/4 to 1/2 inch, with some locations receiving just over 1/2 inch.
