Nice Today, Great Tomorrow. PWW (Perfect Weather Watch) in Effect for Central Alabama.

| February 19, 2017 @ 1:40 pm

It’s hard to argue with today’s weather. A good supply of sunshine after some early morning fog in valleys and low clouds in East Alabama. But temperatures have rebounded nicely from early morning lows mostly in the 40s to the 60s over Northeast Alabama and 70s elsewhere across Central Alabama.

Just a few clouds scattered here and there, but mostly blue skies across Central Alabama. Everyone should make 70F this afternoon.

We will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s overnight.

And then there is tomorrow. Sheer perfection. In fact, I think we will go ahead and issue a Perfect Weather Watch for tomorrow. Future forecast shifts can decide whether to upgrade to a Warning. Skies will be partly cloudy and temperatures will warm into the middle and upper 70s, and even near 80F along the US-80 Corridor from Demopolis to Montgomery. A few records could fall Monday, including the 78F at Birmingham.

Tweaking the forecast now. A few notes:
…The new European is in. Does give us a decent chance of showers and maybe a little thunder Tuesday during the day. The GFS still stubbornly thinks we will be dry. We will side with the European and go a chance of showers and a little thunder. Nothing strong or severe though.
…Will go mostly cloudy on Wednesday. Still mild. Small chance of a shower, especially over South Central Alabama. Nothing to mar our Practice Tornado Warning Wednesday morning, part of Alabama’s Severe Weather Awareness Week.
…A Perfection Alert! Partly cloudy and warm. Could Birmingham flirt with its first 80F of the year? Not likely, but possible. That would be in the top 20 earliest.
…European a little more bullish on a round of showers and storms Friday evening. I will take some of that action. Already in the forecast, but will limit it to mainly Friday night into early Saturday. Bumping Friday’s high to 75F. Could be another lunch outside!
…Might not make it out of the 50s Saturday. I will trim the forecast high for Saturday to 58F.
…First peek Sunday: Might see some 30s early Sunday. But the day will be nice; partly cloudy and mild with highs in the upper 60s.
