National Weather Roundup for Sunday, March 5, 2017
It you were a weather enthusiast growing up in the 50s, 60s or 70s, you were probably a read of Weatherwise magazine. The highlight of each year was the Almanac issue, where Editor David Ludlum, the pre-eminent weather historian, recounted the weather highlights of the previous year. The events were headlined on the front and back cover with an orange and white map of the United States, using a typewriter font to give information about the event or record.
Additionally, as broadcast and NWS Meteorologists in the 70s, 80s and 90s, we always looked forward to the two National Weather Summaries issued by the SELS group out of the National Severe Storms Forecast Center in Kansas City. The narrative summaries would headline the most significant weather going on across the country.
In the spirit of Ludlum and SELS, we are posting occasional National Weather Roundups like the old ones that used to clack across the teletype of the 70s, and adopting a similar orange and white map to graphically display the information. We hope you enjoy them!
