* 14 below zero at Saranac Lake, New York, was the coldest in the South 48 States this morning. That town, located in beautiful Upstate New York, near Lake Placid, has experienced a winter to remember. They have been the coldest spot a large number of times. I actually believe they have “outscored” such famous cold spots like International Falls, Minn., and Ely, Nev., just to name a couple.

* 34 below was the coldest in Alaska at Colville. It was 31 below at Deadhorse where the ole wind chill index was 52 below!

* 364,000 bushels was the amount of wheat harvested in Limestone County of Extreme North Alabama in 2006. Adjoining Madison County was second with 360,000 bushel.

* 6.10 inches is the normal rainfall for March in Birmingham–making it our wettest month of the year.

* 15.80 inches is how much we got in 1980, our wettest March.

* 0.32 is how much wew got in 1918, our driest March.

* 23 March is the average date of the last freeze in Spring in Birmingham.

* 23 April is the latest date on record with freezing or lower (1986)

* 100,00 is how many people drowned by a sea flood at Freisland, Holland in 1228. That was 779 years ago!

* 70,000 was how many people that died in a major cyclone at Calcutta, India on October 5, 1864.
