Strong Storms Approaching Etowah County

At 644 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Tabor Road to Sardis City to Snead. Movement was south at 35 mph. Half inch hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with these storms. Gusty winds will be possible ahead of the storms.

Therefore a Significant Weather Advisory has been issued for Etowah County until 7:30 PM.

Locations impacted include…
Gadsden, Rainbow City, Boaz, Hokes Bluff, Attalla, Glencoe, Sardis City, Steele, Altoona, Walnut Grove, Reece City, Tabor Road, Aurora, Ballplay, Gadsden Mall, Noccalula Falls, Neely Henry Lake, Southside, Ridgeville and Gadsden Steam Plant.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
