| April 9, 2017 @ 3:00 pm

On this date in 1975: a total of 14-17 inches of rain fell in 48 hours across South Alabama, much of it during the evening of April 9th.

The heaviest rain in fifty years deluged a 20 mile wide area almost 80 miles in length from near Evergreen to near Netwon, Alabama.

Conecuh, Escambia and Covington counties were at the epicenter of the flooding.

Brewton was hit especially hard by the flooding. US-84 was closed for a time.

It was part of an amazingly wet year across South Alabama that saw Evergeen record the greatest annual rainfall in state history: a whopping 114.02 inches.

A third heavy rain event on July 31st caused even more flooding, especially in the Mobile area.
