Scattered Showers/Storms Return Tomorrow

| April 16, 2017 @ 1:51 pm

Happy Easter! Happy Passover!

High pressure centered near Bermuda is firmly in control over Alabama on this Sunday.

There is a nice cumulus field over Alabama as the heating of the day works on available moisture.

Temperatures at 1 p.m. were climbing into the lower 80s where they will top out this afternoon.

Skies will remain partly cloudy this afternoon. You can see showers building in the deeper moisture flow over western Mississippi and western Tennessee. With the deeper moisture edging into extreme western and northwestern Alabama, we can’t rule out an isolated shower but the chances even there are small.

Tonight, lows will be in the lower 60s for the most part, with a few upper 50s over Northeast Alabama.

The moisture flow around the Bermuda high will begin to pile up moisture over North and North Central Alabama ahead of the cold front that will be just to our northwest by tomorrow. It looks like scattered showers and storms will form with the heating of the day and any passing disturbances. Highs will be right around 80F.

It looks like there could be even more widespread showers and storms Tuesday. Highs on Tuesday may be limited to the upper 70s for the most part.

There shouldn’t be any severe weather, but a few strong storms could be mixed in, with strong gusty winds and small hail a possibility.

A stronger system will bring a round of showers and storms for the weekend, with the best chances coming Saturday night. Recent model data suggests the severe threat is low with the weekend system, as the surface low will be well to the north. That’s great news for the Honda Indy Grand Prix, which will be next weekend at Barber.
