Numerous Scattered Showers Out There Already At Midday

| April 17, 2017 @ 12:03 pm

At the midday hour, skies are generally partly sunny over the northern half of the state, with mostly clear skies to the south. We have a cold front located off to our north, and this is causing the ridging that we had in place for the last week to be replaced with a nearly zonal flow. With the front’s proximity that close to the state, and a more moist airmass in place, showers and thunderstorm development is likely throughout the remainder of the daytime hours.

Numerous scattered showers and a few thunderstorms have already developed with the heating of the morning, with most of the action located over the northern half of the state. All of these are pushing to the northeast, and will generally be located over the northern half of the state throughout the day. A few of these could become strong, with a brief period of gusty winds and some small hail. With weak bulk shear across the area, the risk for any storms to become severe is very low. Afternoon highs will be in the low to mid 80s across the area. Rain chances will drop some for the overnight hours, but a few showers or storms could linger throughout the night. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. The odds of any one location receiving rain is around 1 in 3.

TEMPERATURES ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA AT 12:00PM
Temperatures are currently ranging from the lower to mid 70s in the north, to the upper 70s to the lower 80s in the south. The warm spots are currently Selma, Troy and Eufaula, all at 81 degrees. The cool spot is Haleyville at 73 degrees.

SHOWER & STORM CHANCES CONTINUE INTO TUESDAY
A near repeat of today for Tuesday’s weather… There could be a few showers left over during the pre-dawn through the end of rush hour, but most will be dry to start the day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will once again develop with the heating of the day, and will continue into the early evening hours, but the overall coverage should be a little less. The better rain chances will be in the northern half of Central Alabama. Highs will top out in the low to mid 80s.
