New Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued to the West

| April 26, 2017 @ 8:58 pm

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a new severe thunderstorm watch that goes until 2 a.m. for much of Mississippi up to to the Alabama State line.

A line of intense thunderstorms is moving into Central Mississippi. There are several severe thunderstorm warnings in effect.

The line will approach West Alabama’s Lamar County before between 10:30 and midnight and probably reach I-65 between 1-3 a.m. Check back for updates. Official timing will vary.

The line may weaken a bit over the next couple of hours, but with an increasing low level jet, increasingly negatively tilted trough and some backed surface winds, there is not only the threat of damaging winds, but also a couple of tornadoes.

Please have a reliable way of receiving warnings tonight.

I will have a full mesoscale analysis and update by 915 p.m.
