Storms in Birmingham Metro, Not Severe

Storms in the Birmingham area have loud, booming thunder, because they are elevated in nature. Their higher bases give a longer channel for the lightning and this results in loud booming thunder.

They have moderate to heavy rain and some gusty winds.

One hour rainfall rate will e near one half inch.

Elsewhere, storms are lined up from the Birmingham area southward through Bibb, Hale, Greene, Perry, Dallas, Wilcox, Marengo, Choctaw and Clarke Counties.

They are all moving northeast at about 50 mph.

This activity will impact Shelby, Chilton and Autauga Counties between now and 2:30 a.m.
