It’s A Great Midday Across Central Alabama

It is a beautiful day across Central Alabama at the 11 o’clock hour, and temperatures are pretty nice as well. It is so nice today that several of my neighbors are having yard sales today. It will be getting pretty warm outside today, and only a good breeze out of the southwest at 10-15 MPH will help those “yard salers” stay comfortable. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 80s across Central Alabama, with mainly sunny skies throughout the daytime hours.

Clouds will be on the increase especially over the western counties during the late evening and into the overnight hours. Temperatures will be in the lower to mid 80s at 7PM, and dropping into the lower to mid 60s for the lows across the area.

Temperatures at the 11 o’clock hour are running in the mid 70s to the lower 80s across Central Alabama. Eufaula and Montgomery are both tied as the warm spots at 81 degrees, with Cullman and Pell City tied as the cool spots at 75 degrees.

A mix of sun and clouds can be expected across Central Alabama to start off this Memorial Day weekend, along with very warm temperatures. Afternoon highs are expected to be in the mid 80s to the lower 90s across the area. There is a very slight risk for isolated showers and storms across the extreme northern parts of the area, but the rest of Central Alabama will remain dry. Skies will become mostly cloudy during the evening, with temperatures starting off in the lower to mid 80s across the area, and only dropping into the upper 60s to the lower 70s for the lows.

ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY – 1917
A tornado touched down near Louisiana MO about noon and remained on the ground for a distance of 293 miles, finally lifting seven hours and twenty minutes later in eastern Jennings County, IN. The twister cut a swath of destruction two and a half miles wide through Mattoon, IL. There were 101 persons killed in the tornado, including 53 at Mattoon, and 38 at Charleston IL. Damage from the storm totalled 2.5 million dollars.
