Storms Entering the Birmingham Area, West Alabama

| June 18, 2017 @ 5:33 pm

A mass of showers and thunderstorms is entering southwestern Jefferson County from Tuscaloosa County at this hour.

The storms are not severe at this time.

They will affect much of Jefferson County and northern Shelby County over the next hour with lots of lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds.

A line of strong storms is pushing into Northwest and West Central Alabama as well. These storms extend from Florence and Russellville to just west of Hamilton to north of Columbus MS. Heavy rain, wind gusts to 40 mph and dangerous lightning will accompany these storms.

Other wise, storms are approaching the Gadsden area in Northeast Alabama, but they are not especially heavy.

There is still a risk of severe weather across North and Central Alabama this late afternoon and evening as these storms continue ahead of a slow moving cold front.
