Tornado Threat Continues Overnight

The airmass over Alabama has not changed substantially even those this afternoon’s wave of storms pushed east. threat of tornadoes continues overnight tonight.

There is moderate instability and decent wind shear in place. There is also high low level helicity, which is favorable for tornadoes.

The NWS is coordinating a new tornado watch that will replace the current watch that is scheduled to end at 10 p.m.

We have already been concerned about the cell over northeastern Chilton County. It briefly flared in intensity about ten minutes ago.

Any storm that can form a robust updraft tonight will likely rotate and could produce a tornado.

Don’t let your guard down. Have a reliable way of receiving warnings immediately that will wake you. Minutes will count.
