Storms on the Increase Around Birmingham

Storms have grown in coverage and intensity east and south of Birmingham in the past hour.

Areas from Center Point and Moody southwest through Homewood to Alabaster and Chelsea are seeing a good concentration of storms heavy rain, sharp lightning and booming thunder. There could be some gusty winds as well.

Heavy rain is falling all along I-65 from Homewood to Hoover and back northeast along I-459.

The activity appears to be pushing or building south southwestward.

To the north, storms with heavy rain extend from northern Jefferson and southern Cullman County across Blount and into Etowah Counties. Other activity is along I-59 in DeKalb County.

Heavy rain in areas that are susceptible to flooding could see flash flooding. Be indoors to avoid the lightning.
