Rush Hour Check On Central Alabama’s Weather, Emily Now A Depression

| July 31, 2017 @ 4:33 pm

Not A Bad Day Across Central Alabama Today
With a center of high pressure off to our northeast in control of our weather across Central Alabama today, conditions haven’t been all that bad for the last day of July.

Afternoon highs topped out in the upper 80s for the most part, with Tuscaloosa and Montgomery both hitting 91 degrees as the warm spots. Clear skies and nice temperatures can be expected for the evening and overnight hours tonight, with lows dropping into the 60s throughout the area.

Tuesday’s Forecast Is Pretty Much The Same As Today’s
Another great day across Central Alabama for tomorrow. High pressure continues to be in control of our weather, keeping us dry and a little cooler than normal. We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds and highs will be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s once again. Dewpoints will be in the lower 60s, so the high temperatures will feel a little more comfortable than what you would expect.

Rest Of The Week
The high pressure will stay in place and keep us dry and less humid through Wednesday, before a more usual pattern takes shape for Thursday, and we return to scattered afternoon showers and storms, along with higher humidity levels. A cold front will be approaching the area on Friday, increasing our shower and storm chances. The front will wash out over the state during the weekend, keeping a risk of scattered showers and storms in the forecast. Not an all-day wash-out, but precipitable water values will be high again, so we could have heavy downpours that could lead to localized flash flooding. Highs for Wednesday through Friday will be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s, and drop back into the 80s for the weekend.

Beach Forecast
Tuesday will be sunny and dry, but the risk for showers and storms return for Wednesday through Saturday. For a detailed look at the weather from Fort Morgan over to Panama City Beach, click here to see the AlabamaWx Beach Forecast Center page.

Tropical Outlook
Emily has weakened into a tropical depression, with maximum sustained winds at 35 MPH. She is currently moving to the east-northeast at 12 MPH, and will emerge into the Atlantic Ocean tomorrow morning. She is forecast to move northeastwardly away from the US mainland and strengthen back to tropical storm strength. The tropical wave is no longer on the board, so the rest of the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea is quiet.
