Dry Today, Rain Returns Tomorrow

| August 5, 2017 @ 3:51 pm

A break from the rain today for much of Alabama and especially the northern sections of the state. The front has pushed down into southern portions of the state and that has allowed slightly drier air to move into Alabama and confined the rain and storms well to the south.

Temperatures are mainly in the upper 80s, with a few 90s out there with more sun than clouds this afternoon.

RAIN RETURNS TOMORROW: Our flow switches back from the south due to an approaching upper-level trough from the west and that will cause the front to move back north, and put much of Alabama back under the influence of a very humid air mass. This will also mean showers and storms are back in the forecast and we should see a generous coverage during the afternoon and evening hours tomorrow. Highs tomorrow will be in the upper 80s once again.

THE NEW WEEK: A wet and unsettled weather pattern will highlight the forecast with a zonal flow in place across the region. Embedded within the flow will be upper-level feature that will cause an enhancement of widespread and numerous showers and storms each day, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

Storms of course could be strong, and will produce tremendous tropical downpours that could lead to very localized areas of flash flooding. QPF output above suggest much of Alabama could receive 2-5 inches of rain over the next seven days. Highs will be in the upper 80s to perhaps lower 90s with very muggy conditions each day.
