Showers and storms blossomed this morning across areas generally west of I-65.

At the noon hour, they extended from Walker County through Tuscaloosa, Hale, Perry and Marengo Counties. Storms have really ramped up across Hale County in the last 30 minutes. Other

The activity is in an axis of deep moisture that has setup over West Alabama. Differential heating between the cloudier areas to the west and bright sunshine to the east will help to keep this activity going.

Instability values are high over Northeast Alabama and showers and storms were developing at the noon hour as well along a boundary over that area.

Wind shear is extremely low, so storms will have a hard time getting organized. Downdraft CAPE values are fairly high, so storms could produce damaging winds, but the threat is low.

Rainfall amounts should be between one-quarter and one-half inch today and tonight. Localized flooding could occur with any slow moving storms that sit over locations for an hour or more.

The warm front is into extreme southern Tennessee early this afternoon. A surface low and associated upper-level disturbance are over northwestern Arkansas. Widespread showers and storms are rolling through Arkansas, northeastern Texas and into northern Louisiana. Weather associated with this system will begin affecting Alabama overnight tonight and early Monday as the low slides to our north. This will push the front closer to the state and keeping our rain chances high on Monday.
