A Quick Check On Our Weather At 8:50 PM
For the most part across Central Alabama, rain is diminishing from what we had during the last update during the rush hour. The main focus of the shower and thunderstorm activity has shifted up to north Alabama, north of a line from Haleyville to Cullman to Collinsville, with a wrap to the south around the Center to Piedmont cities.
A Flash Flood Warning is currently in effect until 9:30 PM for parts of Morgan County, including the cities of Decatur, Hartselle, Priceville, Trinity, Somerville and Basham. Two to three inches of rain have already fallen, with additional light rain expected to continue over the next two hours. Flash flooding may be occurring along low-lying spots and near streams and creeks.
A Flash Flood Warning is currently in effect until 11:00 PM for parts of Franklin and Lawrence counties, including the cities of Russellville, Phil Campbell, Mt Hope, Landersville, Newburg, Spruce Pine and western Bankhead National Forest. Between two to three inches of rain have already fallen, with locally higher amounts possible. The thunderstorm complex affecting the warned area is nearly stationary, so an additional one to three inches is possible over the next couple of hours. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly, especially in low lying areas!
Rain is expected to continue over the same areas for at least the next few hours, and with the training of the cells, flash flooding will be possible in other areas not already warned for a flash flood warning. Unfortunately, more rain is forecast for the day tomorrow and throughout the rest of the week and into the beginning of next week.
