Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer

| August 13, 2017 @ 1:40 pm

Days like today remind me of an old record album that my Mom Murray had from Nat King Cole that featured a song called “Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer”.

It’s a lazy, hazy August Sunday afternoon across Central Alabama. I don’t know so much about crazy, but you could certainly be crazy about the weather, I guess. A healthy cumulus field covers much of the state. High clouds are blowing across the Tennessee Valley ahead of a complex of storms over Arkansas that is just entering western Tennessee and Northwest Mississippi.

There are a few showers and storms over Southeast Alabama, but nothing seems to be threatening to grow into a storm over Central Alabama. Can’t rule that out through the afternoon, and if any do get their act together they will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts.

The complex that is moving across Mississippi could get into Northwest Alabama before midnight tonight. Rain and storms could affect areas north of I-59 overnight, staying mainly north and west of Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.

Temperatures are in the middle to upper 80s and will rise another 1-2 degrees before topping off for the day.

Rain chances will be fairly high tomorrow before slowly ramping down into midweek as high pressure builds across the area.

We are tracking soon to be Tropical Storm Gert which is northeast of the Bahamas, but is no threat to the United States. We are also watching a disturbance in the far away eastern Atlantic that could be a problem for the East Coast or Gulf Coast around the 25th of August. Serious voodoo country, so lots of time to watch it.
