Isolated Cooling Showers: Lucky Today, Unlucky Tomorrow

| August 20, 2017 @ 2:38 pm

Isolated storms have formed across Central Alabama this afternoon in the hot and humid airmass across the state.

There appears to be a bit of forcing in the form of a mini surge of slightly drier air pushing in from North Alabama.

If you were lucky enough to be under one of the cooling storms, you picked up some brief heavy rain. Temperatures dropped about 8 degrees and 0.65 inches fell from a storm over my house between Acton Road and Cahaba Heights. That storm didn’t produce any lightning that I could tell, but the storm over southwestern Cullman County is starting to as of this writing.

Temperatures are in the lower 90s for the most part, with oppressive dewpoints in the middle 70s.

The overcast sky associated with those showers will not be good luck if it happens over your location tomorrow as you will miss seeing the sun eclipsed by the moon. Please, please, please promise that you will not look at the sun AT ANY POINT during the eclipse in Alabama without officially approved eclipse glasses or welding glass that is shade 13 or higher.

You only have one set of eyes.

The good news is that only isolated storms are expected tomorrow with just scattered cumulus clouds. Good luck!
