A Sparkling Sunday to be Followed by a Rainy Monday

| March 4, 2018 @ 12:00 pm

A gorgeous early March Sunday is in progress across Central Alabama, with mostly clear skies and only a few clouds over West Alabama. Clouds are thicker over Mississippi, part of a slug of moisture that is rounding the top of an upper-level ridge and heading to the southeast.

Showers are moving into Mississippi from Arkansas and Louisiana, and those showers will work into Southwest Alabama this evening. Those showers will be the vanguard of a complex storm system that will work into Alabama Monday.

Lightning is being reported over southern Arkansas, where there is a marginal risk of severe weather later today. No severe weather is expected in Alabama from this system.

Showers will work into West and Northwest Alabama overnight, reaching Tuscaloosa before sunrise and Birmingham in time for rush hour.

More widespread and heavier rain will work into the state through the evening and overnight hours on Monday. generating around an inch of rain for most folks before it is over.

Highs this afternoon will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Lows tonight will be in the 40s. We will be 5-8 degrees cooler on Monday thanks to the clouds and showers.

The cold front will push through Monday night, but we will still make the 60s on Tuesday before the mass of cooler air moves in for Wednesday and Thursday when highs will be in the 50s and lows will be in the 30s.

More rain returns for the weekend. Moderating temperatures will as well.
