GOOD SOAKING: Rain has moved into Alabama this morning, and wet weather will headline our forecast for the next 48 hours. Today will be cool with occasional rain; the rain will be more widespread tomorrow as a wave of low pressure tracks along the stalled front over Alabama. Seems like we have a great chance at getting two inches of rain for much of our state; the latest NAM is printing 1.99″ for Birmingham. We might have some thunder at times, but no severe weather is expected with a stable airmass in place, and the rain should not be heavy enough for flash flooding problems.

The rain should taper off across the northern counties tomorrow night, and models continue to trend toward a drier solution for Sunday. We will forecast rain ending by early Sunday morning, with a few peeks of sun possible Sunday afternoon over the northern half of the state.

NEXT WEEK: Looks relatively quiet next week for our state; the GFS hints at a few isolated showers along the way, but no major rain event next week over the northern half of Alabama with seasonal temperatures (highs in the upper 60s or low 70s).

AT THE BEACH: Lots of questions about weather on the Gulf Coast in coming days with a number of Alabama school kids in spring break next week. For today, tomorrow, and Sunday, the sky will be mostly cloudy with a good chance of showers and a few thunderstorms. Afternoon highs will be in the 65 to 70 degree range, and the sea water temperatures along the Central Gulf Coast are running in the mid 60s. A few showers will remain possible on Monday, but the rest of the week looks dry. On the immediate coast, highs will remain in the upper 60s due to the influence of the cooler ocean water, but temperatures inland will reach the 70s.

VOODOO LAND: The GFS sure looks cold around March 27-28… late cold season snaps are very common here; I don’t think we are done with freezing temperatures. See the Weather Xtreme video for the details.
