ONE MORE DRY DAY: Our dry and pleasant weather will continue tomorrow, with a partly sunny sky and a high in the low to mid 70s. High cirrus clouds will spill into the state, and as you know, “cirrus near us, stratus coming at us”.

THE WEEKEND: The 12Z GFS continues the idea of rain moving into West Alabama Saturday, then spreading eastward by late afternoon into Saturday night. Periods of rain along with a few thunderstorms are likely statewide Sunday. Rain amounts of one inch are likely, with heavier totals possible, especially over Northwest Alabama.

Severe weather parameters remain rather unimpressive for Sunday; the CAPE from the NAM is 465 j/kg with a lifted index of -1.2 Helicity values also look low, so hopefully severe storms won’t be a problem Sunday. But, you know the deal, we always have to watch weather systems like this in April in Alabama.

NEXT WEEK: A cold core upper trough will be over Alabama Monday; looks like a cloudy and cool day with some risk of light rain, mainly over the northern third of the state. Highs will be only in the 50s with a chilly north breeze. Gradual clearing is likely Tuesday, and the rest of the week looks dry and very mild with highs well in the 70s, possible approaching 80 by the end of the week. The 12Z GFS looks dry for the following weekend (April 25-26), but that is out there in voodoo territory, and could change.

Still strong evidence for a general trend toward warmer temperatures and fewer storm systems during the last week of April and the first week of May.
