    In PCB from Tuscaloosa, and this was truly an awesome looking storm. Even had temporary signs of rotation. The floats and the canopies flying around the beach were truly hilarious (glad no one was hurt). Cool storm, and great pic.

    Storms rolling in from the Gulf can be remarkably powerful. Last year, when we were staying on the beach just west of PCB, a fast-moving storm swept in from the southwest with gusts of at least 40 mph. Yup, everything went flying, including our favorite float. My then 17 year-old stepson took off after it. He looked like an Olympic athelete as he dashed up the beach, chasing the float as it sailed and tumbled off into the distance. Finally, ten or twelve houses down, he caught up with it, then had to turn and face the wind and lug it back, the sand stinging his face. A couple of beach babes (no doubt impressed with his athleticism) stopped him to chat briefly. Otherwise, his return trek was, in his words, miserable.

    We returned to the same facility last week, during the heat wave. Not a drop of rain fell at our location. In fact, each day the sea breeze struggled to establish itself inland. The atmosphere was pretty well capped, as cumulus clouds would start to build, only to fall apart due to hot, dry air at the mid levels. In a way, I was disappointed.

    makes me think of a storm we had when we were at Gulf Shores 3 years ago. I had never seen a storm while at the beach before and it was nuts! we were in a house right.on.the.beach. I looked out the windows at the lightning and rain over the ocean and the wind and it was crazy!
