Storms To Increase Monday
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
BRING ON THE WEEKEND: A low level easterly flow has resulted in lower daytime temperatures across Alabama today… at 2:00 Anniston was only at 83, while Birmingham was at 86. Below forecast levels, and again, nobody seems to be complaining. A handful of showers shows up on radar, but they are very isolated. Expect similar weather tomorrow; hotter with highs in the low 90s and a few showers and storms around. We note the NAM keeps the ridge west of Alabama, and is more aggressive with the development of showers and storms during the afternoon hours tomorrow and Sunday. The GFS is drier and most likely more realistic.
NEXT WEEK: An upper trough over the eastern U.S. will push a surface boundary down this way, and could very well enhance the chance of showers and storms by Monday and possibly Tuesday. The core of the heat ridge remains west of Alabama, so most of the week will feature highs in the low 90s, with some risk of scattered, mainly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.
TROPICS: See the Weather Xtreme video for details on the developing system over in the Pacific, well south of the Baja peninsula. That one could become a hurricane by early next week. The Atlantic basin remains quiet.
AT THE BEACH: Let us get back to the beautiful sandy beaches of Alabama and NW Florida. Look for high temperatures all the way through next Tuesday to be between 90 and 92. If you happen to get a good sea breeze on the immediate coast, those highs will be in the upper 80s. The sea surface temperature is unusually warm, so the sea breeze is not quite as effective.
