Showers and Storms Forming

July 12, 2009, 1:16 pm | Bill Murray | Forecast Discussion

Sometimes you just have to wait for the atmosphere to show its hand, which it is now doing in the form of showers and storms over Northwest Alabama, and isolated storms near Birmingham.

A cluster of strong storms were also over Southwest Alabama.

Showers and storms are now over southern Tennessee, Northeast Mississippi and Lauderdale/Colbert Counties in Northwest Alabama.

Movement is southeast at 25 mph.

This activity would make the Birmingham area around 5 p.m. or so if it holds together.

Keep an eye to the radar and the sky through the afternoon as these storms move southeast. They could reach the Birmingham area around 5 or 6 o’clock.

We continue to monitor storms over eastern Missouri. The GFS wants to bring these storms into Alabama overnight, but so far they are showing a tendency to move eastward. They will have to turn southeastward or southward to make that happen.

Got out of church around 11:30. Went and had lunch. Mentioned to my hubby wow it’s super hot and humid. Took my dog out for a walk around 1:20 and heard a lot of boom boom. Pretty suprised. Startled the dog. He’s only 3 months old.
Beginning to get dark here in Pleasant Grove.
