Alabama Weather at 6:45 pm

October 30, 2009, 6:55 pm | J.B. Elliott | Severe Weather

Many thanks to Bill Murray for blog coverage while I was doing wall-to-wall radio coverage of the Walker County Tornado Warning.

Bill was doing the post while traveling on a train through Virginia on the way to Birmingham.

Finally, we are without any tornado warnings. The last one expired for Winston County.

There has been some damage tonight but no major damage. Three homes were damaged on Thornhill Road near Haleyville and there was heavy damage to two barns. No reports of injuries anywhere.

Just before 7 pm a band of showers moderate to heavy extended all the way from Pickens County in West Alabama NE to near Decatur in the Tennessee Valley.

A separate shorter band of showers, moderate to heavy was from Perry and Bibb County NE to the Birmingham.

0.92 rain reported in Haleyville. John Talbit, 33/40 Skywatcher for Concord/Hueytown, in West Jefferson County reports heavy rain in progress.

NWS/Birmingham has issued a Severe thunderstorm Warning for Winston County until 7:15.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1 am, CDT for numerous counties across North and Central Alabama. We are optimistic that it will not have to be in effect that long.
